I’m a British cross country skier from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Having started skiing at the age of 8 at an open day at the Huntly Nordic ski centre I progressed through to the British Nordic development squad and onto the national team, competing at my first Olympic games in Sochi.
I have just completed a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Edinburgh, where I combined four years of full time study with training. With two years to go until the next Olympics, I’m now a full time athlete, focussing 100% on getting as fast as I can at running round snowy forests on two bits of wood.
With this blog I hope to share some stories from my adventures in chasing my long term goal of a top 30 placing at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang.
Outside of skiing I’m a keen cyclist, riding with the Granite City RT. Other hobbies include cooking, reading, music, climbing and recently orienteering (badly)

Hi Callum.
Congratulations for representing Team GB in Pyeongchang. Just been viewing your page and people don’t realise the hard work you put in years before the event takes place. Truly inspirational.
The games were great to watch even though I’ve never participated in any winter sports.
I’m 52 now and suffer with Parkinson’s but I fancy a bash at snowboarding so may give it a go.
Anyway, a very cheeky request. I’ve been trying to purchase one of the Team GB red bobble hats that were worn at the games.
Adidas have sold out and people are asking ridiculous money on eBay for them.
I can understand if you wish to keep yours as a momento or to even sell it yourself but if you wish to offload it I will happily buy it off you.
Sorry to be so cheeky and best of luck in your future activities.
Phil
Phil, thank you for your comment! I’m afraid I traded my bobble hat for a Danish one. I do have lots of Team GB kit that I’m unlikely to ever use again though, if you’re interested give me an email on callumsmith7@googlemail.com
